Order and product limit rules can use a customer tag condition so a rule applies to signed-in customers with a chosen tag. For example, require customers tagged wholesale to buy at least 12 items per order.
Create a wholesale rule
- In Shopify Admin, add the
wholesaletag to a test wholesale customer. Prepare another account without the tag for comparison. - Choose an order limit to total the order or selected scope, or a product limit for selected products.
- Create the rule and choose its product scope. Under Customer tag condition, choose Restrict to customers with tags and add
wholesale. If your goal is to exclude tagged customers, use the exclude-tag mode instead. - For example, choose total order quantity and set Minimum quantity = 12. Activate the rule. To block checkout, enable both its switch and shop-level Checkout Validation.
- Save the rule, review the default minimum-quantity message under Translation, and save message changes separately.
Test two customer accounts
Sign in as the tagged wholesale test customer. A cart containing 11 in-scope items should trigger the minimum; change it to 12 and it should pass this rule. Sign in as the untagged retail customer with the same cart and confirm this wholesale rule does not block it. Account for any other active rules when interpreting the result.

Real results depend on your products, stock, markets, store settings, and test conditions. Verify the setup in your own store.
