An apparel shop has finished shirts on the shelf and fabric for future production. It wants orders to use the ready-made units first, so a sale of an already-made shirt does not also consume fabric in Soply.
Illustrative scenario: The quantities and order sequence below explain the setting; they are not a real merchant's inventory records.
Keep the two stock types separate
Suppose the shop has 4 pre-produced shirts and 5 meters of fabric available to use. Each new shirt needs 1 meter of fabric. The fabric alone supports five complete shirts, while the four finished shirts are already made.

The first order uses three finished shirts. The later order uses the last finished shirt, then consumes one meter of fabric for the second unit. The timing of the recorded changes follows the store's When orders affect inventory rule and order state.
Configure the product binding
- In Raw Materials, open the fabric material and confirm its current Available to use quantity.
- Under Product Usage, bind the correct Shopify shirt variant. Set Consumption Per Unit to 1 meter and Finished Goods Stock (Pre-produced) to the actual count of 4.
- Save, then review the binding and the variant's calculated Derived Availability. The finished-goods field affects consumption priority; it does not increase Derived Availability. Do not add four to the material-based figure and assume Soply displays nine sellable units.
- When production creates more finished shirts or a count changes, use Adjust finished goods stock and record the reason. For a controlled order, check how the finished count and fabric availability change.
Decide what customers may order
Recording finished stock and allowing a backorder are different decisions. Leave Allow selling when raw material is insufficient off unless the shop intends to accept a shortage. Check Shopify's displayed stock, Soply's derived availability, and cart/checkout validation separately before making a sales promise. If an order appears to consume both finished stock and fabric unexpectedly, compare the binding, order timing, and material snapshots.
