How to Set Pre-Produced Finished Goods and Allow Backorders

A product binding can include Finished Goods Stock (Pre-produced) and Allow selling when raw material is insufficient in addition to Consumption Per Unit. These settings serve different purposes: one changes what stock an order consumes first; the other changes whether sales can continue when material runs out.

Record pre-produced finished goods

Pre-produced finished goods are units already made and ready to fulfill without consuming more raw material. In the material's Product Usage, open the target variant and enter its Finished Goods Stock (Pre-produced). Orders consume that finished stock first; later units use material according to the binding's per-unit usage.

The app states that this field does not increase Derived Availability. It affects consumption priority. Do not add it to the material-based derived number and assume the sum is what Soply displays. When production adds finished units or a stock count changes, use Adjust finished goods stock from the raw material list and record a reason for the variant adjustment.

Decide whether to allow sales after material runs out

Allow selling when raw material is insufficient lets customers continue buying despite a shortage. The material can be tracked below zero, and affected orders are marked so your team can identify them for restocking or follow-up. Treat this as a deliberate backorder policy, not as a way to hide a stock discrepancy.

Set and verify both fields

1. Open Raw Materials → Product Usage and expand the target variant.
2. Check Consumption Per Unit and enter the actual pre-produced quantity.
3. Enable sales during material shortage only if your business accepts that commitment. Save the material or binding changes.
4. Review the variant's Backorder status in Product Bindings and test the intended sales behavior.

If derived availability remains low despite finished stock, review what the pre-produced field is designed to do before increasing material stock. If a shortage order occurs, inspect its marker and follow-up status in Oversell orders.
