Calculate Shopify Gift Box Availability from Component Stock

A gift shop sells a coffee gift box made from products it also sells individually. Instead of assigning an unrelated fixed stock number to the gift box, it wants the kit's availability to reflect the components that can actually be picked for an order.

Illustrative scenario: Stock quantities below are examples, not a real merchant's results.

Calculate complete gift boxes

One gift box contains 2 bags of coffee beans, 1 mug, and 1 spoon. At one Shopify location, the store has 12 bags, 7 mugs, and 10 spoons available.

The coffee beans are limiting, so that location supports 6 complete gift boxes. Selling beans or mugs individually can reduce the quantity supported by the kit because those sales draw from the same component variants.

Model the kit in Soply

1. In Inventory rules, choose a mode that includes bundles.
2. In Bundles / Kits, select the Shopify variant customers will buy as the gift box.
3. Add the existing Shopify component variants and enter 2 beans, 1 mug, and 1 spoon per box.
4. Choose DERIVED_ONLY when component stock alone should set the limit. Choose MIXED if a tracked gift-box sales variant must impose its own Shopify stock cap as well.
5. Open the bundle's location breakdown and compare it with the six-box calculation. Test both an allowed cart quantity and one that should exceed availability.

If the sales variant has only 4 tracked units available at that location, MIXED can cap this example at 4, while DERIVED_ONLY remains based on the components. If the sales variant is not tracked in Shopify, the app describes MIXED as constrained by components alone.

Check before publishing the bundle

Confirm that the selected component variants, quantities, Shopify location, and inventory mode match how staff will assemble and fulfill the box. Each location is calculated separately; component totals spread across locations do not necessarily make a complete kit at any one location.
