Sell Bead Packs and Handmade Bracelets from One Shopify Stock Source

A craft store sells bead packs as supplies and also uses the same packs to make bracelets. It already counts bead packs in Shopify. The store wants a bead-pack sale to change how many bracelets it can make, without maintaining a second, unrelated stock number in Soply.

Illustrative scenario: The quantities describe a possible setup, not a real merchant's inventory or results.

One stock source, two ways to sell

The Shopify bead-pack variant has 18 packs available at the location used for this workflow. Each bracelet consumes 2 packs.

The bracelet count is a material-based calculation, not an additional pile of beads. The example assumes no other material, location, reservation, or sales rule sets a lower limit.

Model the relationship in Soply

1. Confirm that the Shopify bead-pack variant represents the physical packs and that Shopify is recording its inventory at the intended location.
2. In Raw Materials, create a material with Shopify product stock as its inventory source. Link the bead-pack variant, set the base unit to pack, and select the participating location and location rule.
3. Under Product Usage, bind the bracelet sales variant and set Consumption Per Unit to 2 packs. Check Available from Shopify and the bracelet's calculated availability.
4. Decide whether Sync linked source product stock should also write the material's available quantity back to the bead-pack variant. If bracelet orders must reduce the pack's Shopify inventory, review this setting before creating the material: enabling it may update that variant immediately, and the choice can be locked after creation.
5. Test a bead-pack sale and, separately, a bracelet order under the store's selected order timing rule. Check the linked source stock, material availability, and bracelet availability after each relevant event.

Keep one inventory authority

Reading a Shopify variant as the source and writing the material's quantity back to that variant are separate behaviors. If an ERP, warehouse system, or another app also writes the bead-pack SKU, agree which system owns its stock before enabling source sync. Do not infer that the stock of every bound bracelet is written to Shopify; that is controlled separately by Product stock sync.
