How to Link a Raw Material to Shopify Product Stock

If Shopify already records a material's real stock in a product variant, Soply can read that variant's inventory at selected locations and use it to calculate the availability of products consuming the material. First confirm that the selected Shopify variant truly represents the material and that your team knows which system owns its stock.

Create the linked material

1. Open Raw Materials, add a material, and choose Shopify product stock as its source.
2. Enter an internal material name, SKU, and base unit. Select the Shopify variant that represents the material.
3. Choose the locations used in the calculation and a Location rule. Sum all locations adds selected location quantities; Use the lowest stock across locations uses the lowest location value.
4. Review Sync linked source product stock and any other sync options carefully. Reading source stock and writing back to Shopify are different behaviors. Some source-sync choices cannot be changed after creation.
5. Add the sales variants under Product Usage, enter Consumption Per Unit, review status, and save.

The current app text says Use priority order behaves like Sum all locations for now. Do not treat it as an active priority deduction sequence.

Check a simple location example

Suppose the source variant has 8 units available at location A and 5 at B. If both are selected, Sum all locations gives 13; Use the lowest stock across locations gives 5. Choose based on whether your business can actually share that material across the selected locations, rather than choosing the larger figure by default.

Verify and update the source

In the material details, check the linked variant, selected locations, and Available from Shopify. This source quantity is generally read-only in Soply's form. Make changes in the system that maintains the Shopify variant's inventory, then review material and bound-product availability again.
