When Does Soply Update Shopify Inventory? A Guide to Stock Sync

Soply can calculate product availability inside the app. It also offers settings that write certain calculated quantities to Shopify's native inventory. Before changing them, separate where stock is read from from where a calculated result is written.

Identify the two sync targets

The linked source product: A material that uses Shopify product stock as its source may offer Sync linked source product stock in the applicable creation flow. This controls whether the linked source variant mirrors the material's available quantity. The setting can be locked after creation, so decide whether that Shopify variant truly represents the material and which system should own its stock before saving.

Products that use the material: The material's Product stock sync setting can write calculated sellable quantities for bound sales variants to Shopify. This is separate from syncing the material's source variant. If an ERP, WMS, or another app also writes those sales variants, agree on one inventory authority before enabling this option.

Configure stock sync for products using a material

1. Create the raw material and add at least one correct Shopify variant under Product Usage. Set its Consumption Per Unit.
2. In the material's Inventory settings, find Product stock sync and review the option to automatically update Shopify stock for products that use the material.
3. If the page offers Distribute total, the calculated total is allocated across effective Shopify locations. The combined target equals the calculated total; check that those locations match your fulfillment setup.
4. If Shared pool mirror is available, consider it only when selected pickup locations truly share one physical pool. It writes the same available quantity to each selected location, so Shopify's displayed location total is amplified. The app applies health and configuration checks, including validation and reservation prerequisites, before this mode can be enabled.
5. For a saved material, choose Preview changes. Review affected variants, locations, current quantities, and targets. A preview does not change Shopify stock; saving the sync settings can trigger the actual update.

Review before going live

• Are these the sales variants whose inventory Soply should manage?
• Are the effective locations right for their sales or pickup flow?
• Does calculated availability match material usage and current order activity?
• Does an ERP, WMS, or another app update the same Shopify variants?
• Does the preview show errors, a partial list, or a configuration warning that needs attention?

You can keep calculated availability in Soply without enabling product stock sync. When stock sync is enabled, Soply may overwrite inventory for the target Shopify variants at the selected locations. Read the preview and confirmation carefully before saving.
