PURCHASE LIMITS / GUIDE 17

How to target purchase limits by customer tag

Apply purchase limits to logged-in customers with particular tags or exempt tagged customers, with guest checkout caveats.

2 min read

The rule's Customer tag condition can limit a rule to certain logged-in customers or exempt customers with selected tags. With no tags selected, tags do not narrow the rule's audience.

Configure a tag condition

  1. Open an order limit or another limit rule on its General tab.
  2. Expand CUSTOMER TAG CONDITION and select Restrict to specific tags or Exclude specific tags.
  3. Type or choose tags and confirm they appear in the selected list. The first option affects logged-in customers with any selected tag; the second exempts customers with any selected tag.
  4. Enable Require customer login if customers subject to this rule must sign in. Save the rule.
  5. Follow the verification guide with a tagged account, an untagged account, and a guest.

Example: Limit only VIP customers

Set Product A to a maximum of two units, choose Restrict to specific tags, and add VIP. A signed-in customer with VIP triggers the rule at three units. A signed-in customer without that tag is not restricted by this rule.

Customer tags are available for matching only after sign-in. Do not assume a guest's email causes the rule to use tags on a matching account. Require customer login is a separate condition and shows a login requirement to applicable guests. When a purchase frequency limit is selected, login is required automatically.

To cover all customers, leave the tag lists empty and review the rule's scope and login setting.
