The goal of this setup is to make one rule produce the expected storefront feedback and block a noncompliant checkout. You need a published Shopify theme and permission to edit app rules and theme settings.
Step 1: Create your first rule
- Open Soply Purchase Limits in Shopify admin and find Dashboard → Quick setup.
- Use the create-rule entry, or open Limits → Select limit type.
- For a first test, choose Order limits and plan a maximum of two items.
- Enter a Rule name, choose the quantity limit type, and set Maximum quantity = 2.
- Keep the rule active, turn on Enable checkout validation in the rule, and save it.
If you need a per-product cap instead, follow Set product limits.
Step 2: Enable storefront messages
Use the Theme app extension entry in Quick setup to open Shopify's theme editor. Turn on the Soply Theme App Embed and save the theme. Return to the app and refresh the dashboard status. See Enable the Theme App Embed for detailed steps.
Step 3: Enable shop-level checkout validation
Find Enable checkout validation on the dashboard. If it is off or only partially enabled, enable it and refresh the status. Confirm that the order limit function is enabled. See Enable checkout validation.
Step 4: Run two cart tests
Test with two items first: the cart meets a maximum of two. Change the same cart to three items: it should trigger the rule and be blocked at checkout. Keep the store and product the same in both tests so that other conditions do not change. Follow the full verification checklist.
You are done when
- At least one rule is active.
- The Theme App Embed and the matching shop-level checkout validation show as enabled.
- Checkout validation is enabled in the rule.
- A compliant cart can proceed and a noncompliant cart receives the expected feedback or checkout block.
Use a test product or cart to check the outcome before applying this setup across your store.
