Want to cap purchases of a limited item, reserve a product for eligible customers, or require products to be bought together? Soply Purchase Limits helps Shopify merchants turn those requirements into purchase rules, show customers relevant messages while they shop, and check the rules at checkout.
This page introduces the situations the app can handle and the quickest path to your first working rule. Follow the linked guides when you need step-by-step instructions.
Find the rule for your goal
| What you want to do | Start here |
|---|---|
| Limit the number of items, order value, or weight in one order | Order limits |
| Limit the combined purchases of products in a collection | Collection limits |
| Limit purchases of a particular product | Product limits |
| Set a separate limit for a product variant | Variant limits |
| Cap total units sold across orders | Total sales limits |
| Control who can buy a product by customer, email, or country | Product access rules |
| Control which products can be bought together or require a matching item | Purchase combinations |
Not sure which one fits? Use the rule type selection guide. Exclusive purchase has its own guide, too.
How a rule reaches the customer
Check three parts of the setup to make a rule work as intended:
- Configure the rule: Choose what to count, set the condition and audience, then save and activate it.
- Show storefront messages: Enable the Theme App Embed so customers can see relevant messages while shopping.
- Check checkout: Enable shop-level Checkout Validation and the rule's Enable checkout validation switch so the cart is checked at checkout.
Storefront messages and checkout validation are separate parts of the setup. After enabling them, test both a cart that passes the rule and one that violates it.
Adapt rules to your sales campaign
- Use customer tags and login conditions to target an audience, or start and end times to schedule a campaign rule.
- Use purchase frequency limits to control repeat purchases over a period. Review flagged orders and set up email alerts if needed.
- Use translated messages and warning trigger settings to help customers understand the rule.
- For a limited release, see the flash sale example for ways to combine rules.
Set up your first rule in 5 steps
- Open the getting started guide and check the store and theme prerequisites.
- Create a rule that is easy to verify, such as a maximum of two items per order.
- Enable and save the Theme App Embed in the theme editor.
- Enable the matching shop-level Checkout Validation function and the rule's checkout validation switch.
- Test carts with two and three items, using the verification guide to check the storefront message and checkout result.
Once your first rule works, use the guide overview to find more settings, examples, and troubleshooting articles. If something does not work as expected, start with the FAQ.
Use a test product or cart to check the outcome before applying this setup across your store.
