PURCHASE LIMITS / GUIDE 16

How to set minimum and maximum purchase limits

Set minimum and maximum purchase quantities, values, or weights, and understand scope and zero-maximum restrictions.

2 min read

Choose quantity, value, or weight under Limit type, then enter a Minimum, a Maximum, or both. A minimum requires the threshold to be met; a maximum prevents exceeding it. The rule type and target scope determine what is counted.

Configure the limit

  1. Go to Limits → Select limit type and create a rule. Use an order limit for a combined order total, or a product limit to evaluate products separately or together.
  2. Name the rule and select all products, particular products, collections, or the other scope available for that rule type.
  3. Under Limit type, select total quantity, total value, or total weight. For weight, check the unit shown in the editor.
  4. Enter a minimum, maximum, or both. If you enter both, the minimum cannot exceed the maximum.
  5. Turn on Enable checkout validation if checkout must be blocked. Save and use the verification guide.

Example: Two to five items per order

Create an all-products order quantity rule with Minimum quantity = 2 and Maximum quantity = 5. One item is below the minimum; two and five pass; six exceed the maximum. If the rule instead targets selected products, items outside its scope do not count toward it.

Standard quantity, value, or weight limits need an applicable threshold; exclusive purchase can control which items share the cart without a quantity cap. Maximum = 0 cannot be used to ban purchases; the editor rejects it. Use Product Access Rules for a ban or eligibility rule. Test values and weights using the rule's currency and unit, and remember that several active rules may affect one cart.

Also check checkout validation settings so a storefront warning is backed by checkout blocking when needed.
