How to Edit a Multi-Level BOM and Check Its Inventory Impact

Changing a component or its required quantity can change the availability of a sub-assembly and every sales variant that depends on it. Review the affected path before saving, then check the new result.

Change the recipe

1. In Raw Materials, open the app-managed material you want to change.
2. Open Composition. Inspect direct children in Tree View and expanded base-material requirements in Flat BOM.
3. Add or remove a child, or change the amount needed for one unit of the parent. Enter the amount in the child material's unit.
4. Read the impact confirmation to see which downstream materials and variants will be recalculated, then save.

Soply prevents cycles, relationships beyond the configured depth limit, and child materials or units that fail its checks. Follow the specific error message and review material status, recipe paths, and units rather than creating a reverse relationship.

Verify after saving

• Reopen Tree View and Flat BOM to confirm the hierarchy and expanded quantities.
• Check available quantities for base materials, sub-assemblies, and affected sales variants. A large change may take a short time to finish recalculating; refresh the page if needed.
• If Shopify stock sync is enabled, also check the affected variants' inventory in Shopify.
• For an unexpected change, inspect material snapshots and operation audit logs against your earlier values.

For example, doubling fragrance usage from 0.1 kg to 0.2 kg per product may make fragrance the new limiting material. Wax stock alone will no longer explain the sales quantity. See How multi-level BOM availability is calculated.
