When many variants consume one material, add Product Usage in bulk by product filters and then review the results. Bulk selection saves time, but variants with different sizes should not inherit an incorrect usage quantity.
Use Bulk Add by Filter
- Open the material in Raw Materials and go to Product Usage.
- Choose Bulk Add by Filter. Search by Product Type, Tag, Vendor, Keyword, or Collection.
- Set the default Consumption Per Unit for bindings created by this operation. Review the defaults for pre-produced stock, backorder permission, and active status when shown.
- Choose Search. Check the preview's matched products and variants, items already added, and items that will be added.
- Select the intended variants and import them. Inspect the Product Usage list and save changes to the material page.
For example, a T-Shirt product type may return 30 variants. You might start with 0.5 meter as a default, but then edit XL or children's variants to their actual fabric usage.
Other selection options
Advanced Add Product Usage provides a fuller selector with variant and binding status. Product Bindings can filter the catalog by product type, collection, tag, vendor, or keyword and configure selected products. Smart Add Product Usage can infer quantities from variant names containing a size or amount, but you must still verify the result.
Check the bulk result
Sample the first and last products, variants of different sizes, and variants that had existing bindings. Ensure you did not add duplicates to the current material, usage values are positive, and units are consistent. In Product Bindings, check Bound/Unbound status and calculated availability. If Shopify's catalog changed recently, allow the product index to refresh before concluding that a variant is missing.
Use a test product or cart to check the outcome before applying this setup across your store.
