How to Enable and Test Cart and Checkout Inventory Validation

Inventory validation checks whether a requested quantity exceeds the availability calculated from your active rules. Set up and verify a raw material or bundle before enabling validation so an incorrect rule does not affect real orders.

Check the prerequisites

In Inventory rules, choose the correct Raw material, Bundle, or Mixed mode. Confirm that the test Shopify variant is connected to an active material or bundle and that its calculated availability is what you expect. Your current plan must also support checkout changes; follow the plan prompt if the page shows an eligibility warning.

Enable validation in Soply

1. Open Inventory rules.
2. Find Cart & checkout validation and note whether its status is Active, Inactive, or Unknown.
3. Choose Enable. After the operation completes, use Refresh to confirm the status is Active.
4. Remember that enabling or disabling validation in this section takes effect immediately. It is separate from the save bar for the page's other settings.

Home also shows Checkout inventory validation under App status. The nearby Storefront cart quantity controls status refers to an optional theme app embed that adjusts quantities in the storefront cart. The cart control and checkout validation are managed and checked separately. A disabled cart embed does not, by itself, prove checkout validation is inactive.

Run a comparison test

Choose a test variant covered by an active material or bundle rule. Note its calculated availability, then try both of these in the storefront:

1. A quantity within availability. It should proceed through the purchase flow.
2. A quantity above availability. Look for a quantity limit at the relevant cart or checkout validation stage.

If you enabled the optional cart control, observe any cart adjustment separately. Complete a checkout test as well; an admin status badge alone does not show the entire customer experience.

If the result is unexpected

• Inactive or Unknown status: Refresh the status and check the message on the page and the Shopify checkout rule.
• An excessive quantity passes: Confirm that the tested variant is connected to the active material or bundle and covered by the selected inventory mode.
• A valid quantity is blocked: Check available stock, usage per unit, bundle component quantities, locations, and other active limits. Use snapshots for a complex discrepancy.
• Only the cart behaves differently: Check the optional theme app embed separately from checkout validation.

You can temporarily disable validation from the same section while troubleshooting. Re-enable it and repeat the comparison test when the rule is corrected.
